Hello could someone tell me why this game is a draw when I obviously won by far on the timer ?

I don't understand.

Thanks

ArtNJ

Because when white ran out of time, black had insufficient material to checkmate.  The rule is thats a draw.

I am not sure to comprehend the logic behind this rule. As a complete noob I had a feeling of unfairness.

The logic behind the rule is neither player can win the game, so it’s a draw. You cannot checkmate your opponent with a lone King, and they cannot checkmate you with no time left on their clock.

ok that makes sense. Thanks for your help

chess rules for my house in the good ol' USA, you win when you have a king and another piece vs another king, regardless of how long it takes. however the lack of more use with the rook is unclear.

Vincidroid

Black had insufficient materials to checkmate. So, it was impossible for black to win this if white had time. That is why it’s counted as a draw. It's only fair.

An old rule that most players would never have to worry about... Of course watching the lack of skill of both players.. Im not suprised that it happened....

Flagging your opponent won't help if you do not have sufficient material yourself....

It does help. It salvages a draw out of a lost position.

Yeah...I meant it won't help you win...

Because if you and your opponent had infinite time , you could not win by checkmate no matter what, you don't have enough material left to actually win.

Watching the last few move of the game: you seem to have no idea of how to mate with a rook. It takes no more than 5-10 minutes to learn this, I think you should.

What do you mean ? I have no rooks left at the end of the game

acceptablecheddar

So you won on time, but you had insufficient material to checkmate, chess.com takes that as a draw.

Except king + any piece vs a king is not always checkmate even with infinite time.

He was the one with the time, not the rook.
