Why is this move the best move according to the computer?
It is not the best move. The best move is to castle getting the king out of the way so the queen cannot be pinned. Maybe the computer suggests Rxg6 because the depth is too low but different analysis tool recommends castling. Rxg6 does not cost your opponent the game however since it is equal now but he just made blunders.

Thanks both of you for the reply. Shakti13 that really explains it. I was wondering why not just move the king and just lose 2 points knight takes rook, queen takes knight. In Ketoon1963's variation you could just capture the rook with the pawn on move 26 and then just take the pinned queen.Â

I keep calling the knight, horse, and the rook, tower. Hahaha I'm just translating them literally from Spanish in my head. 😂

It is probably the worst move that threw away the winning game to draw"

Stockfish at depth 32 in my phone say, 0--0-0Â is very likely winning with +2.00Â at 87 million nodes ( 15 seconds on 8x cores cpu).

Please be aware that the quality of Stockfish depend on cpu times x no of CPU. Chess.com server use <1 second per position for analysis.

Okay. This is making me re-evaluate using the in-app analysis for learning purposes. I always review my matches looking for improvement opportunities and I rely on the computer for input; now I feel like the analysis is not reliable as it cannot provide a reliable assessment.

Looks like multiple people have already cleared up that Rxg6 is not the best move here. I'll give my two cents anyways. I think in such a position, White should definitely try to hold onto the queen, and not allow any sort of Re8 to pin. If it was legal for White to castle here, this would have been the way to go. It's possible that Rxg6 was the 2nd best move and the chess.com analysis feature accepts any of the top three moves as the "best move." This, however, is merely a guess. Hope this helps.

Hi guys,
I'm trying to understand why the computer is saying that move (25.Rxg6) is the best move when in fact costed my opponent his queen and tower, and ultimately the game. Is there something I'm overlooking here?
Thanks 🙂
