Worst clobbering of 2008!

Here's an example of what happens when you underestimate peculiar openings & don't know when to cut your losses.  Quite embarassing but educational as well.  Feel free to comment!

I'm not as high rated as you are.  But didn't you break several principals of oppening chess.

1. Don't make more than 3 pawn moves in the first 8 moves

2. Don't move the same piece more than once

3. Don't Develop the Queen Early.

I know at higher level chess you sometimes break a rule.  But if you break all three rules aren't you just inviting disaster?

Definitely #1 was a major mistake.  #2 became somewhat necessary as my position steadily worsened (though I should have just sucked it up & moved my king when put in check & hoped to survive) and, as for the queen move, it's the main line of the opening & not generally a big deal as the c3 pawn blocks the knight from chasing her.  However, 3. ... Qxd4 and 4. ... g6 is unusual.  From now on won't play d5 until AFTER I've played g6 and fianchetoed the bishop.

What about 11...Rb8? That doesn't seem to lose anything. But then I'm rated 500 points lower than you so maybe I'm not seeing something you see.

If 11...Rb8 white can reply 12 Bf4 and black still loses the rook (and lets white develop another piece)

Sometimes its ok to break the rules:

eg:

1. Take the Ruy Lopez for example. sometimes whites "Ruy" Bishop gets kicked around early by a6 and b3 forcing the bishop to b3.  Add to that the P-e5 move and possibly d6 and you have a lot of pawn moves made in a good opening.

2. the bishop moves several times in the Ruy Lopez.... by force. Also the Alekhine Defence also chases around the Knight.

3. In certain openings its ok to develop the queen out early.  Eg. in the game above this starts out as mainline theory in the c3 Sicilian (AFAIK up to and including whites 4th move... dont know after that....).  Also the Scandinavian is a sound opening where the queen comes out early.

9. If N(f)*d4 then d5 would allow you to develop...as it is, it is clear his intention is to develop the bishop You did well against an unusual opening - it seems so wrong but ends up so,so right. Your main mistake is b6 - it does not seem to serve a purpose, Bb7 would have been better...but hindsight is a beautiful thing and i do not think i would have done much better

sorry i mean g6 on move 9
