A Pleasant 14 Move Discovered Checkmate

My opponent chose to push flank pawns in the opening (neglecting the center) while I developed in the way IM Daniel Rensch taught in his new video series for beginners titled Everything You Need To Know.

In the video, Daniel has ten rules for the opening. The first three are 1.Develop, 2.Develop and 3.Develop. That’s the level of importance he places on developing!

I own several books on the opening phase of the game, but hearing Daniel explain it with such razor sharp clarity and simplicity really helps a lot.

Last, enjoying a huge lead in development opens the door wide open to tactical surprises.

Nice game. What was wrong with 12...Nxe5 by the way?

Absolutely nothing. Houdini showed 12...Nxe5 to be THE move. It was a free knight for the taking. I must have suffered a bit of tunnel vision, being too focused on playing Re8.

It's still my favorite book on checkmates. I was just going through it again a few days ago.  :)
