Another Dutch victory!
There's no way I could have gotten away with something like that because they'd play h2-h3 right away and I would've waisted two moves. f6-g4-f6.
Ok im not that familiar with the Dutch so i will skip the first few opening moves and give my thoughts.
Whites 10th move: yes, 10.b4 isnt a good move but it was probably played with the intention to keep the backward on c6 where it could be attacked along the half open c file. Not a bad idea really.
A better way to go about this for white is something like this line 10.Qc2 Qc7 11.Nf3 Nf6 12.Nc3 0-0 13.Rc1. White could have some ideas like Nc3-a4-c5 and Bb2-a3. White has a bad bishop and will try to exhange this somehow via a3. On the otherhand black has a bad bishop on c8 but will probably be thinking ...f4 idea(improving the scope of the bishop). Ne5 and ...Ne4 are obvious possibilities. It is an interesting position to say the least.
11.e5 has to be dubious. The move looks like the natural thing to do but Black allows White to exchange his bad bishop for Blacks good bishop. After 14.Nd2 Black has a space advantage but suffers from a bad bishop. White has play along the half open c file targeting the backward pawn and will be trying to find advanced posts for both his knights.
19.N2f3?! no no no... White should have played the far superior 19.N2b3! Remember, play on the side of the board where you have favourable imbalances. White should be playing on the queenside. This even looks the most natural move. White adds to his control of c5 and prevents black from getting counter play with an eventual ...a5.
Black is doing fine attacking on the kingside and although Blacks bishop is ''bad'' it is active as a defender of the backward pawn. (after 19...Ng4 20.g3, Black has forced some holes and should keep at it. His light square bishop may come in handy around those weakened white sqaures on the kingside. Naturally, black sticks to playing where his favourable imbalances lie).
19.Ne4 Nice! The most natural move and taking stance on a nice outpost. Strictly speaking not an outpost as it could be kicked with f3 but white wont be doing that since he has blocked this posibility with Nf3. So if 19.N2b3 Ne4 20.f3 (plus over minus)
20.Rab1 if anywhere this should have gone to c1 with the the f3 knight on b3.
Blacks 20th move i would have played 20...a5 to weaken whites queenside and rid a lonely pawn (unconnected) while opening a file. Neverthless i like 20...h6 too. I like to go straight for the king myself, soo tastey! 20...f4 looks like a good way to start an attack on the kingside. It improves the scope of the bad bishop and allows for play along the f file.
The alternative line given: 22...Rxb4 is pretty much equal after those exchanges. 22.Rfc8 i dont think is the best move. Black should have stuck to making advances on the kingside. Again 22...f4 looks good. (for same reasons as above).
27...c5! The white pawn is going to drop so why weaken your own pawns in the process. Keeping the 3 pawns connected is better than having 2 connected and one isolated.
33.Rbc2? Obvious really, and well i dont think the rest needs any more comments other than well done to Dutch_Defense! Oh, and the double exclamation marks: ''i say: Why not, you played it!'' hehe
I dont want to be too critical but i dont think white had a plan as although doubling rooks on the b file pushing the a pawn and positioning the knight on f3 all look very natural and pretty moves they didnt have any meaning, did they?!
To the Black player i really only think ...e5 ridding white of his bad bishop and not sticking to the kingside attack are points to consider.
Hope this helps and please anyone who would like to suggest alternatives to what i said please do as there is always more than one move alternative (well, most of the time). The reason i didnt provide many variations is i think understanding the ideas in the game are more important. Important points (themes) about this game, Minor pieces in the middlegame, weak (backward) pawns, weak squares and to play where you have favourable imbalances.
