10...Nxa1 is actually the best move for Black. After 11.Nxd5 Black has a clear advantage either by 11...c6, or the newer move 11...Qh4.

So, the title should be "what should I do if they take my rook?".

9.a3 is a weak move, White should try 9.Qe4, 9.0-0 or even 9.Bb3. Or, even better, play 6.d4! insteadf of the dubious 6.Nxf7

Yeah, I've read that the Lolli attack is stronger.  Do you have a good reference for it?  I mostly play the Fried Liver out of hubris :)

I have tried 9. Bb3 before, but with so-so results.  9.0-0 is too slow for me, but I'd be interested in trying Qe4.

With regards to 10...Nxa1, I have always understood 10...Nd4 to be a stronger move.  Am I mistaken, and if 10...Nxa1 really is better, where (in your opinion) did my opponent first go wrong?

10...Nd4 is better for white, IF he can win an endgame with opposite-coloured bishops while a pawn up... :P

But 10...Nxa1 is a killer. 11.Nxd5 Qh4! is the most clear (white has to enter an endgame where he is positionally busted), but Buecker's 11...c6 is also strong for Black.

The Lolli is not 100% clear, but the best Black can hope is entering a position where he has 2 pawns for a knight. Not terribly inspiring.

ehhh, the more i look at Qh4 the more I like it for black.  I'm going to look into it more: thanks for the info!
