i think you could have captured on g5 on move 23, but ahven't analysed it. just intuition.
I won brilliancy prize for this game.

Mates even quicker with 24. Qxg5+ Kh7 (forced) 25. Rf7#
So it is... of course, Black doesn't have to recapture....
23. Nxg5 works out quite well if Black recaptures:
There is a big difference with the game, because there's the night on d6 and not on c5. So Qf7 isn't possible. and the queen stands on f2 so Qxg5+ isn't possible...

Ah yes Peterski you're responding to me I assume... take a closer look at my own post :P ... I'm responding to TheGrobe who posted a !! line for white :).

You know that really isn't a true forced continuation...because he can play Qf4 after the knight takes pawn.

Sorry Qf4? I'm not sure I see what you're looking at.

Yeah, hence the "if". I just ran it by Rybka, which likes Qd6 over Qf4 followed by a long, drawn out struggle.

I didn't read the other comments but 23. Nxg5 forces mate in 5 moves if black recaptures. If black declines the capture he's still in huge trouble. Still a very nicely played game.

Less than 5 moves (read the comments :P)...
But yeah, excellent play by immortalgamer. Even after the knight 'sac' there is quite a bit of play.

Ha! look at that you're right I didnt even calculate Qxg5+ I looked at the long variation...
23. ... fxg5 24. Qf7+ Kh6 25. Qh5+ Kg7 26. Rf7+ Kg8 27. Qg6#
Would love some comments about this game.
