This is called a staircase and is a well known tactical motif

This position is closely based on a position from a blitz game by kingcrusher, where he found this combination. White to play and win (with black giving the strongest opposition possible).
(Note that it may be tempting, as black, to try to break the pattern by moving the queen, or perhaps the pawn, but doing that will only end in a faster defeat. This is the combination of moves that delays the defeat the longest.)
