Post weird looking checkmates here

This peculiar checkmate happened in a blitz game today. My opponent tried to flag me but instead got a "third-rank mate."

a solo queen smothered mate in 11 in a mieses gambit caro kann I played just minutes ago that I wanted to share HERE before the miniatures thread. after seeing a few missed diagonal mates in analysis, I try to keep an open eye out for it, especially in the opening. I guess my opponent just didn't see it

I've been having a bad run with the mieses here for some reason.

A couple of bizarre checkmates came up in this game, but only as variations that my opponent needed to avoid.

On move 30, White had to choose between getting Smothered Mated, or getting Epaulette Mated, or just losing a bunch of his pieces one after another.

I just hate pawns.

the "rare" open air smothered mate (choking on smog mate?)

after doing homework to find THIS line, it leads to a lot of "weird looking mates" because white throws EVERYTHING at black's naked king if he doesn't block the initial check with g6, which instantly loses him a rook
