A nice occurence of the rare Epaulette mating pattern. Well, he didn't get mated, but resigned in knowledge of the consequences of his next forced move.
Move 6 is a nice variation to know because there are some good attacking lines and black can find it difficult to navigate... although I'd never seen this particular opportunity before.
This was a correspondence game against a higher rated opponent on another site>
The opening is the funniest part: it's not often that you reach a Sicilian structure after eight moves and from a d4 opening.

It's true that's not an everyday occurrence, but similar transpositions are common in correspondence chess. One of my best victories in the French Defense began 1.d4 Nf6 2.Nc3 e6 3.e4 d5 4.Bg5 Be7 ... White was a National Master who was 2-0 against me before this game. Our score is now 2 1/2-1 1/2 in his favor.
@sammy_boi, this is a rarity in that it's a gambit which is best not accepted. Black has other decent options like a6, c5, h6 etc. But a really crazy fun line is 6. h4 f6 7. Bd3!? with a massive mess

I have many wins accepting the pawn, but many losses as well. Black must defend precisely, while White's errors are usually less costly.
In any case, playing both O-O and h6 as Black cannot be recommended. When I accept the sacrifice, I try to castle queenside. Black can castle kingside only when the sacrifice is refused.
henryhughes9 this is not a miniature - it almost looks like a prearranged
maybe but this was a real game in a tournament that i played in guelph last weekend legitimate draw

Here's an example of how White can go wrong and lose quickly when Black accepts the pawn.
