#BCM2 - Pulpofeira vs. MSC157

Sort:
MSC157

@solskytz, yeah, haha. Not really used to speaking while playing, especially not in English (also, I'm much better in writing than in speaking Laughing), so... interesting but hard experience.

It's also pretty funny how easy it is to blunder or misplay the position while playing. And noticing the mistake right after.

However, the whole video is pretty boring (to me) since you can mostly hear my thoughts during the game and calculations. Maybe the last 3 minutes are "worth" watching because of an interesting end, but yeah, haha.

For those interested in YT: Kutford is my profile there. Smile

Robert and Itzhak, will include it in #BCM2 episode if you want. :)

<Robert> My FIDE for the time being is 1955. It will go up though!

Your 2100 USCF corresponds, at a guess, to about 2050 FIDE more or less. So it's probably an interesting match.

<MSC157> Definitely do!! It's an episode :-)

I'm happy that Robert contacted me for a match, as indeed, my thought yesterday was - "if only I could find a challenging opponent, but not QUITE as strong as CP6033"...

The Gods listened carefully, and with their infinite wisdom, immediately provided me with the answer to my prayers.

Robert_New_Alekhine

Thanks MSC, please do! First game is on Monday.

Provided we can agree on the time controls...

For now I asked for 30 15, but the slowest Robert can agree to is either 26 0 (which is definitely original) or 15 10...

I need a bit of time to handle stronger players... or alternatively - it could be a simple 3 0 match (he defeated me 3:1 tonight - and I got a lesson on the French defense) - in which case, we can play up to a hundred... doesn't matter how much time it takes.

adumbrate

Good luck!!!

I posted this on my own thread, but if someone is interested in a short match with me (something like 4 or 6 games), then I'm ready for a match. My FIDE is 1916. I want some proof for myself that I can manage shorter matches before trying a long match.

Also, good luck! I'll be rooting for Pulpofeira. Also, if the time control issue is solved I'm looking forward to the Solskytz and Robert match.

Taulmaril

I'll take a match with you Martin.

Robert_New_Alekhine

26 10 would be OK.

ThomasJEvans

Can I ask why 26 minutes? 25|10 is much more mainstream.

Unbelievable 21st game!

I can't blame you for losing it though, Pulpo... it's tough when the opponent applies such relentless pressure to your position. ...Qa4 is a very crafty move - with echoes of a famous game, Rotlewi - Rubinstein (check it out) - checkmating on a2 when any piece defending on b2 would be pinned.

For me, several of your choices in that game were strange - first and foremost, the queen-side castling - the king looks immediately too exposed on that wing.

Then - taking the c4 pawn - I would play Qxc7 that that point - which almost forces him to exchange queens. The only way for him to avoid it is by playing Queen to e8, at which point we go Rook h to e1, with all of the army (+ an extra piece) active, and the poor queen has to move again...

After the following ...Qb5 or ...Qa4 I would play Kb1 and Be5 and expect to win pretty simply.

A bit later he plays ...c5 - and here, nothing is wrong with simply taking the pawn! This is because you're also attacking his queen when you do that. You later play pawn to c6 - which both keeps the c-file closed for him, and is a menace in its own right...

Then he plays bishop to g5, check - a great opportunity to CHOP that bishop off the board! So he takes with the queen, another check. You play f4! and on ...Qxg2, your own queen will come to c2, look his queen in the eye, and tell her that her 'big attack' is over.

You are left with a MONSTROUS bishop on e5, doubly protected, unassailable, with no adversary, and moreover - it's an EXTRA bishop.

Should I continue :-) ?

Instructive enough, thank you very much! Laughing

It's called self promotion, and it's how you make the big bucks. He's probably gonna get a cut of the PPV buys for this one.

solskytz

<Pulpofeira> you're welcome :-)

I wonder whether I'll fall under 1600 after the match or not :)

These standard ratings are a bit suspect... I believe that there are too many unchecked and unfettered cheaters in that pool - lowering the ratings for everybody.

As ratings are typically below 2000 in that time control, chess.com security is rather lax in reinforcement, I feel...

I have recently lost to a "1691 standard" player, whose moves 10 to 26 in our game were all, without exception, Stockfish's number one choice.
