how much you are changing ?

Charging? Therein lies the rub. How much is it worth to you for one of these fantastic lessons? Instead of stated rates, I may have to use my "gullible detector"  (standard issue) which will make cost to the gull-I mean, member, a sliding scale. So, don't be offended if you may be paying more than another for the same lesson.

kco

can of beer for each lesson ?

Sounds good to me - what are you drinking?

Heineken and Guinness are preferred, usually. I also like Harp and Bass. With so many micro-breweries popping up, many times I try new brews.

Oh, yeah. And Fat Tire.

This thread has convinced me to become a chess coach! I shall offer these lessons:

1. How to lose in 15 moves or less

2. How to completely confuse your opponent by opening with g4

3. Why you should resign after 4 moves

4. How to extend a losing streak

5. And, my specialty, How to really screw up by playing after too many drinks!

I'll make sure the rates are fair. And, all of my coaching is backed up with my history here! I'm certain I will be able to offer even more services in the future!

What do you think?

Woa, those are some pretty bold claims.  I don't think I can trust you unless I see your coaching profile with the 100% service guarentee from chess.com.

 I don't have a coaching profile-yet. I'm hoping kco will be my 1st student.

Chess.com may not offer a guarantee, but I will! I can prove the methods I mention, or your money (or, money for the beer) back.

Hey eric ! (pawnpusher3)

"I have won over 30 tournaments in Rhode Island, making me one of the top players in my state for my age group."

I would like to see the list.

when you offered your coaching - i suggested you should do it for free ( after some intense scrutiny by other posters ) and you offered your coaching to me... however, the post disappeared and when i contaced you you just did not recollect that offer ( probably to my benefit ) but the point is it seems obvious that GD has an extremely valid point in questioning your credibility- and hopefully its just immaturity and nothing sinister that must be eradicated.

I'm actually interested in knowing whether Pawnpusher's had any paying students that were satisfied that they got their money's worth.  I'm aware that he has some nice comments left by some of his previous students on his coaching profile, but I can't tell if those are legit or fabricated.

Hey Kens_Mom, maybe you oughta talk Ken into becoming a coach. Smile

Well I definitely did not post that.... I have had some account problems in the past, but they are being taken care of and I don't seem to be having anymore. Im no 1988 lol, but I still am estimated at 2000. Why don't you challenge me Goldendog though. I think it would be a fun game.

The little brat (PP3) is clearly a bald faced liar, and he'll probably be selling Mexican junk bonds to old ladies within a year or two.  But he's safe-- chess.com obviously doesn't care if people run scams under the guise of chess.com approved coaching.  The lesson from this is not to trust the claims of anyone offering coaching services on chess.com unless they have verifiable titles.  That seems to be the only claim for which chess.com requires truthfulness.

kco

hear hear.

I wouldn't go that far.  I get the feeling that PP3 isn't necessarily trying to scam people by exaggerating his chess abilities, but rather that he genuinely believes that he's enough of a big shot to be paid for his lessons.  Maybe he's just doing this so that he can tell his friends that he is a paid, professional chess coach or something. Bragging rights can be a big deal to some individuals, and PP3 seems to be the type judging from the list of achievements he has posted on his coaching profile.  There's definitely more efficient ways to make money than scamming people on chess.com, so I don't think money is what he is really after.

Regardless, he's doing this at the cost of other people's hard earned cash which doesn't make the matter any better.

I don't know.  He knows how to move the pieces, but nothing beyond that.  Would that put him at around 600 to 700 strength?  That's easily an estimated rating of 1100 as far as PP3 is concerned.

kco

"... judging from the list of achievements he...." what list ?

Are you serious?  The guy consistently refers to his "estimated near expert 2000 rating" while his real rating (which he won't post on his coaching profile) is more than 600 points below that?  The only person in the world making that estimate is himself.  What's the purpose of having ratings if everyone is just allowed to instead say what they think theirs should really be?
