Here are some of the games I won lately that gave me a sense of accomplishment and chess-joy which comes not with a victory, but the feeling of satisfaction and having no regrets with one's choices. Which of these games looks the most beautiful to you? For me it's the second last.
First game. Coordination!
Second game. Calculation! (I wont this game on time but it is evident from the final position that I clearly had winning advantage. I was a rook up and had a passed pawn on the edge of the board.
Game 3. Locking up a rook with a bishop! I won this game because I was able to lock up the opponent's rook at the corner of the board, using my pawn and bishop. It was literally out of the game and never played any part ever after being imprisoned. Notice that even if the opponent could see it coming, he could do nothing to avoid this prison ... The checkmate came as a surprise. I was only looking to exchange his locked up rook for a pawn and a bishop, but out of the blue, a checkmate was delivered to him. Hah!
Game 5. Active versus passive pieces! I won this game because I managed to exchange my inactive queen-side pieces for my opponent's active king-side forces. Also look at the final position. It will make you smile.
