Fischer was out-played twice by Keres in 09/59 and 10/59. As stated by Edmar Mednis book " How To Beat Bobby Fischer" This game attampts to explain how Keres grabbed half a point off of Fischer, by out witting his oponent in his head.
Move 27 Qxb6. Fischer Is "tasting the blood of his opponent".
Move 30. ... g6? I'm no GM. I feel this is the turning point in the game. Sometime a bad move looks strong and visa-versa. This move weakens protection on the Knight and also this is where Keres gets to the best of Fischer and gets in his head.
I think Fischer was thinking about being out-played the last two times against Keres as stated above. Fischer wants the kill more then thinking logically here,"The blood was to tempting".
Move 31. Qe5. I feel that Fischer's evaluation of the position is in fair play for criticism. Fisher could protect the e Pawn and advance the b and c pawns it would take some time and is a safe win. Fisher plays the game by giving up the e Pawn to advance the other pawns quicker. "The blood tastes too good" a quick kill by Fischer is not called for and Keres knows this. That is why he played 30. ... g6! to distract Fischer, because he is using his opponent's weakness against him.
Move 40. ... Qe5. Keres is giving up the fight and is now playing for the draw. Sometimes drawing a lost positioned game is more satifying. then winning a won game.
Move 40. ... Qe5. Watch Keres stop the b pawn and earn a draw.
Wondering about draws... What do you think about this game? Hopefully it was entertaining as well as educating.
