His book, Rapid Chess Improvement, isn't about getting better at playing Rapid chess, it is a method about getting better at chess. In general, you get better at faster chess by getting better in chess overall. There are a lot of methods you could try to do to get better overall, but getting better at slow games will translate into getting better in faster games as well.

Learning more patterns, in diverse areas such as endgames, tactics and openings will help as will analyzing your games.

Thx Martin. Autopilot is my Achilles heel. A bit like tilt in poker. It seems a 1200 at rapid is the equivalent of a 1500 at daily chess! No doubt there's a few engines in the mix, as a lot of rapid players seem to have the most remarkable swings in chess playing ability!

Start some pattern recognition, especially by doing the puzzles. Try to see if you can come up with some sort of plan, whether it be a caveman attack on the king or setting up traps =)

Daily chess is a different thing altogether. I haven't played Daily in a long time, but with the larger range of styles, from people playing it like blitz to people using all allowed resources, you can get some weird rating results. It isn't uncommon to see 200-600 or more rating increase over a player's rapid/blitz.

It is easy to go on a losing streak in live, especially if you get into time trouble, or feel like you are in time trouble. I had a game last night where I was completely winning, was playing too fast for the amount of time I had, and overlooked a one move mate when I had a much better move on the board that prevented the mate and maintained the material advantage.

Learning to use the time you have efficiently is certainly another skill that can be developed.

Mental stuff is important ^^^

Thx guys. I do some puzzles but find the scoring system harsh; you are punished disproportionately for mistakes over correct moves. As for chess on here I like both but find daily chess a much more enjoyable learning pace. But you have no crutches on here (Analysis board and far more time) in live chess which makes for a more challenging experience.
