The engine ratings are very inflated compared to normal human ones. Magnus would destroy the 2900 engine on here.

Even if you postulate that he is the greatest mind the game has ever seen there are still only 2 options here:
1. He has spent a lot more time studying the game than you realize - no one gets to that playing level casually/instantly, regardless of intellect.
2. He is using outside assistance.
I hope it's the former but unfortunately the latter is more likely. In any case, tell him to play more games to see what level he reaches.
I didn’t mean to infer anything of the sort but was more trying to reply tongue in cheek to the previous comment. I’m just enjoying HIM enjoying chess. I came to this forum because I sensed he may be “different” and appreciate all the feedback, sincere, skeptical or otherwise.
As for the “outside assistance”....I watch him play. I am of little help for him and there is no one else whispering in his ear.

What's annoying is when people cheat in the laziest way possible... it means not only do they suck at chess, but they suck at cheating too.
It's like if someone is a bum and can't get a job, so they steal money... but they don't steal a large amount, they rob a few dollars worth of quarters out of vending machines... they end up in jail either way, but even after sacrificing their freedom they were barely able to afford a sandwich. It's just pathetic layered on top of pathetic.
