RedSoxpawn,  your suggestion makes a lot of sense.  Because if everyone starts at 0 rating, then we will have a level playing field and the better  players  would soon push ahead!  So all is fair and square.  I am all for it!

If to zero players verse each other and one wins does he go up and the other down?

Sandyboots : even a whale won't go to zero...That's what I thinkLaughing

Why stop at 0? Let's shoot for negatives!

We had a level playing field to start with, everyone started at 1200! to begin again, at zero is pure nonsense. Oh yes! this is a forum on chess.com, where nonsense proliferates.... carry on! Tongue out

I don't know where you get this misinformation from. There is nothing in the Glicko rating system that excludes negative ratings.

Ridzwan
did you know that timaylivinalie has the most lowest rating. he likes when something goes down.
RedSoxpawn

JoseO wrote: Some one has already mentioned it but the lowest possible USCF rating is 100. Regardless of how badly someone can possibly play, it can not go lower than that. I am not sure what the lowest rating ever was for USCF but I would tend to think that it would probably have been someone who was a scholastic player. Just a guess since I have no data to back this up.

I know nothing of USCF ratings, but this is not the USCF or USCF ratings... the ratings on this site are merely chess.com ratings. The pool players are different and (probably) the ratings are calculated differently. This incompatibility between different rating systems leads to interesting comparisons and approximations, but nothing more.

Thanks to some talk on a forum that got off topic a few people have been wondering if it is possibple to get a rating of zero, or what it would be like for all of us on the site to start at zero?

Lenny Bongcloud is getting pretty close. Smile
