Damn, my list is very similar but would put Muller's Secrets of Pawn Endings in there in place of Kotov's Chess Tactics. Dvoretsky's Excellence School 2 Tactics is in there I presume, it's better than a typical tactic book.
10 books to be GM
To be GM required more than 10 chess books : time, money, play a lot of tournaments everywhere, computer and program for opening theory, hard work, maybe talent, normal intelligence
You've either got the nerves to take the stress and pressure or you don't there's no in between did you watch the last world championship how Anand was tortured by the nervous tension applied on him by Carlsen? that's what it's all about not everyone has what it takes to survive that.
Your opponent in Chess is using the medium of the game to fight your psyche and bring about a total nervous collapse.
To be GM required more than 10 chess books : time, money, play a lot of tournaments everywhere, computer and program for opening theory, hard work, maybe talent, normal intelligence at least, monk life during some years, advice by other GMs, a strong character, strong nerves, other stuff that I forget and maybe 20 or 50 other books.
Anyway, if you have to name a list of just 10 books, for the most higher level but which cover the essential of knwoledge (tactic a lot, but also strategy and ending technique and even opening), what would be yours ?
Here is mine, a simple one with 3 authors.
Nimzovitch : "My system". Kotov : "Think like a GM", "Play like a GM", "Kotov chess tactics". Dvoretsky : "Endgame manual", "Analytical manual", the "School of chess excellence" serie (4 volume).
