They are not clear, even when they appear so clear let have this clear.

There is no proven evidence chess causes mental or personality disorders. We do know anything in excess is harmful. And GMs specially super GMs and world champions play, study, think chess more than 8 hours a day.

I think that it's likely that it triggers it but doesn't cause it. I mean we all know about Bobby Fischer in his later life, how he became mad.

I believe Nature have the cure for any disorder. Go out and hear the birds chirps, the ocean roars, and breathe fresh air. Yes it's quite lonely out there. And very peaceful too. We spend little time with Nature as we spend time after work in front of TV, PC . Or in the crowd of malls. Desperates in the dark bars, pubs , and clubs. It doesn't have to be a far drive. Parks and seaside boulevards could be nurturing.

You could bring your smart phone with you.

@bong711 - very well said, thank you! tournaments.png

Well, with my 6 months in Hutching's State Hospital and 4 months in Terrell State Hospital I was diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder. It's a mixture between schizophrenia and manic depression, so, probably somewhere in between A and B.

All chess players, amateur and professional including past chess greats are the subjects of this thread. Please don't post non chess player. Chess.com players fall under amateurs so you could name any and which type. Which one is your chess hero? your favorite chess.com player? you?

In medical and psychological cases, no two cases are exact duplicate rarely.  Self medication is discouraged.

Titled_Patzer

You MUST take your meds.

It becomes so easy to think you are in control. Trust the Doc's and friends. Irrational behavior becomes comforting. It is difficult to realize your mind is fooling you. I have seen too many take that route, no meds, and end up on the bad end. The high you experience from smoking pot is but an illusion. It is not a substitute for known medications that treat the condition.

bong711

@titledpatzer Thanks for the advice. I'll take my chance with natural methods. I admit there are many unqualified alternative practitioners as much as conventional practitioners.

Titled_Patzer

Cannibus is not a natural alternative. I have seen this approach fail all too often. It is not a long term solution.

I like low budgets. Yoga's expenses is yoga mat only. And a few old books with expired copyrights.

Sit back. Make an objective evaluation of this thread. The title and 1st post. The purpose?

You are clearly in a state of delusion, thinking "issues" only exist outside.

When in fact they lie within. For some people, meds will calm the noise.

Titled_Patzer

Good luck, good chess and as always a handshake.

bong711

Good luck too Chess Buddy. I'm happy to hear you're normal.

Not only is Chess very demanding, but unlike engineering or science, say, it doesn't produce something that's of clear practical benefit. So, often, all that effort had not been rewarded by society.

That is a situation which, not surprisingly, puts pressure on a person's mental health.

bong711

How is the mental health of Einstein and other Nobel Science awardees? For comparison. I believe the lack of recreation cause disorders to Brain workaholics. Chess genius should learn from Capablanca.

DrSpudnik

You don't have to be nuts to play chess, but it helps.
