Because when Carlsen was spending his youth learning a valuable skill we Americans were playing Super Mario Brothers and the Legend of Zelda. What a brilliant waste of time!

There are at least 10,000 reasons. All 10,000 of the games he knows by heart. That's just a start.

I can beat him. Yeah he may know 10,000 games by heart but not two chess games have ever been played that are the exact same.

Who said I can't beat Carlsen?

I can't beat Carlsen because I can't ever get a game against him. Foot in Mouth

philtheking1981

I can't beat Carlsen because I've never tried. Do you think the Scholars Mate Opening could be his undoing?  *rubs hands* :p

because anyone who plays on chess.com is a casual scrub

Chessislife2013

Because I'm such a nice guy I wouldn't want to humiliate the World Champion by destroying him in front of the whole world. So I'd just play a few amateurish (probably about Anand strength?) moves and resign.

I believe you should speak for yourself... oh wait, you already did.

Honestly do you think all the great chess players came to be because they had the mind set that the couldn't beat the best, or be the best. Magnus Carlsen is extremely gifted chess player. He is one in a million but if I played 10 games agaisnt him there is no doubt in my mind that I could beat him atleast once. Chess is a game of out smarting your enemy, it is not about how many games you have played or how many books you have read. There are tons of people who have played more games than Magnus Carlsen and are not even close to being as good as him. Magnus Carlsen is human, he is capable of making a mistake, and he is capable of losing to me no matter how many reasons there may be of why I couldnt be him.
