Yes, it's great for 95% of chess players.
1.f4!?

Considering the From is one of the few times white gets +/= in the Bird then I would certainly accept it and not transpose out.

i found three ways of playing f4:
1.f4 e5, 2. fxe5 d6, 3. exd6 Bxd6, 4. Nf3 g5, 5. g3 g4
1. f4 d5, 2. Nf3 Nf6, 3. g3 g6, 4. Bg2 Bg7, 5. 0-0 0-0
1. f4 d5, 2. Nf3 Nf6, 3. e3 g6, 4. Be2 Bg7, 5. 0-0 0-0

Slow but safe , yes.
The most dangerous line is probably the From Gambit 1. f4 , e5
But if white responds with 2 e4 you have a kings gambit which you may do well to learn if you do not fancy facing the From
Olichris
I would rather be on the white side of From's than on the white side of a king's gambit
Can you tell me if 1.f4 is solid for white?
