2 Types of Chess Players

Chess players can be broken up into 2 groups:

1) The gentlemen and women who like a good game. The kind of person that says things like, “Good game” whether they win or lose. Sure they love to win, who doesn’t, but they respect the game, their opponents and fellow chess players.

2) The trash-talking chess player that has little regard for their opponent. The win is all that matters. Their self-worth is somehow tied to the outcome of their most recent chess game.

Which one are you? Your responses to forum inquiries and observations are an excellent indicator.

#1 = OTB

#2 = Internet

Not hard to figure out the difference.

I don't know about that, Bacon.  Maybe in a nice congenial little club things can get right cozy...but every tourney I'll ever been to seems fraught with many a participant unacquainted with the social graces.

We must be attending different tournaments then.  Except for the occasional immature child, helicopter parent, or the very rare flat out "A-Hole"  My OTB tournment experiences have been very pleasant.

Mind you...I am not including the "Socially Retarded"  They show up no matter where you are.

#1 normal chess where one is able to think about the game at hand, or have time to go to the bathroom or get something to drink.

#2 Blitz

3. What about silent players?

Avatar of Los_Tenyos_Krowo

I m both

1. Respect due as of when given

2. Rarely do I trash talk but I just can t stand pawn - grabbers or opponent s who dance their queen around others that won t accept draw in drawn position and especially those that TRY to repeat to a draw when losing

as for general talk/chit-chat hit me up on

Anything and some opponents don t offer rematches when you re being disrespectful. That s fair however I am usually honest if I blundered or my opponent s tactics were sound... silent players are my preferred type.

Atm it seems like I am playing. Boring games. How can I avoid this????

One other thing. I can t stand is when a player brings their queen out before move 10. That s the equivalent of showing disrespect to an opponent in a boxing match which is not only extremely risky but also a losing tactic...not to mention poor development play as well...

I mean, their bad play is completely justified if it works :3 Bad play is not indication of bad character, just low playing strength. It's not right to hate someone because they play badly, just beat them.

Guess ur right... would you mind replying to my statement in the forum post “is chess a game or a sport?” As well please.

Meh, these are usually beginners. More concerned with pleasantries than playing the game.

Trash talking during the game is low class for sure.

Which one are you?
I'm the 3rd type. I play chess. I don't chat one way or the other and I don't hold a grudge when people don't follow some arbitrary set of customs I've personally decided are the rule of the land.

I never say gg, but I never say anything mean either. If people post mean messages I just ignore them. I never offer a rematch, but I always accept at least 1. Sometimes more like 10.

#2 Blitz

Yesterday I was playing a 3/0 blitz game.

Suddenly I had an urgent need. Apparently last night's meal wasn't thoroughly cooked.

I did my thing, ran back to the computer, and still won the game.

This is actually not the firs time I've won a game like this... lol

That is a very black and white view you have on it.

The social Graces:

Chess players who have the opinion of “people who disagree with me are scum of the earth”” are generally weak...
