what does the new (+points) number mean that I see on the opponents side along with taken pieces, I dont notice it on my side.

It means you're up by that many points piece-wise. +1 would mean you're up by a pawn.

Pawn is 1 point : Knight and Bishop are 3 each : Rook is 5 : Queen is 9 : So if your opponent is plus 20 it means

You are minus 20 . This means that his pieces are so positioned that he is the equivalent of 20 pawns up or 4 Rooks up or 2 Queens and 2 pawns up and so on.
