2012 US Open

Yeah, just show up and walk around :p There's no tickets for non-players to buy if that's what you're thinking (?)

The US Open started tonight & I got stomped, which is to be expected since my opponent is rated about 800 points higher than me. That's OTB points, obviously, which is a darned sight more serious that our online stuff.

Don't give up! In the 2010 US Open, every single player I played was rated higher than I was. However, I was fortunate to finish 5-4, and I gained a bunch of rating points because of that.

The only time I played in the US Open I finished 8-4. Shows how long ago that was.
Has it been a long time since there've been 12 rounds?

can someone help me understand how someone can tie for 1st and 7th place at the same time??? how the heck do ppl get standings in tourney like that?? like if tal or fischer participated in a tourney and came in 2nd and 5th place, how is that even possible?

Hasn't it? Maybe not. I was assuming it was though.

Person 1: 10 points
Person 2: 9 points
Person 3: 9 points
Person 4: 9 points
Person 5: 9 points
Person 6: 8.5 points
Person 7: 8 points
Etc
Person1 wins the tournament outright
People 2 through 5 tie for 2nd through 5th.
For example you can't say person 6 got 3rd because there were 5 people finishing ahead of him.

yeah, i thought thats how it worked. i figured it out a couple of days ago while "meditating" but im a lil drowsy and was until now a bit unsure. thanks for clearing it up

Well, friends, I got my clock cleaned AGAIN tonight, but hey, my opponent was only 600 rating points above me. This game had more moves anyway...
