looks carlsen will have to have a cargo plane deliver him a freezr full of frozen beef, which i am no doubt sure the indian custums agents will try like hell to deny entrance into the country....

And we had to have a racist idiot here Laughing.

I am sure if Carlsen takes the oath to stand against every 'out of the rule book' thing done by FIDE, the venue of the match should change to Carlsen's grandma's house and that too without bidding.

I just suggest that Carlsen should concentrate on playing good chess rather than making excuses.

honest question. why is it being held in chennai. isn't it supposed to be on neutral ground?

I have talked about it in lengths in the chess.com news post, and don't want to repeat the same posts again, and I hold on to my arguements. If bidding takes place and Chennai wins the bid, will Carlsen fanboys still be grumbling?
Who cares?
Either the bidding will happen or it won't. Everything else just sounds like the typical banter you get from any other sports event.

Looks like Chennai will be hosting after all.

@nameno1had: Even if this decision is wrong, I don't see why you dislike India, seeing from your previous comment. But anyway, don't be offended if that was a joke.

I don't dislike India or the Indian people. I rather enjoyed having chai and comparing cricket to baseball with an indian man I had the pleasur of meeting here in the states. I try to be a very fair and unbiased man. I am tired of those who are happy with all of Vishy's conveniences and Magnus' inconveniences. The first time I here of Magnus being refused some beef for a meal, I will personally start a petition of all the chess players I can get to formally complain against FIDE for allowing a venue that in turn had a hand in discriminating against the customs/beliefs of a participant. I find this fitting sine you want to mention discrimination.....

@nameno1had: Mate,

I understand ur frustration when people (according to ur opinion) are bringing their patriotism into a chess game. I also respect your perogative to have opinion.

You may like Indians or not. Your mention of beef here in a sarcastic way and that too without any context wasn't in right sprit and shows cultural insensitivity

I am not sure availability of beef is an issue for Carlsen but if it is then good for him.  In that case he in not going to be comfortable in most places in world because there are one or other cultural restrictions in most places.

Btw, all I hard recently that they are not sure that beef  is actually beef ( and not a horse meat) in Europe. Tongue Out

It appears you have a hard time understanding the perspective of an American. You seem to think that it is ok for people to push their ways onto others. It isn't, that is why we live the way we do here. Everyone is free to make their own choice, without fear of reprisal from another. Many of your former countrymen have discovered the value of this and moved here. I wasn't at all being sarcastic about what I said about Carlsen being able to have the right to exercise his freedom to eat the diet he is accustomed to. I bet if I said it was illegal for Anand to have chai, should the match be in Norway, Indians by the millions would be crying foul. Don't patronize me, I really don't appreciate it. I am being dead serious. I am being so serious in fact, I would rather see the match boycotted in order for the neutrality, equal rights of players and the best possible monetary gains for the players and chess in general be put first. As sad as that would make me and the travesty it would be for chess, still doesn't outweigh the value of the other more important things in life. What good are titles and some money, without honor and freedom ?

The choice is yours:

  • Big-mac or Double-cheesburger?
  • Coca-cola or Pepsi?

If Carlsen is a super genius why is he afraid? All he got to do is good moves.

And the immigration had to come in this as well Laughing

Where's the beer?

TheGrobe

I think you meant to say "where's the beef".

AlCzervik

What America do you live in exactly?  The one you've seen in John Wayne movies?  I've been to Ohio plenty of times, you can't fool me.

AlCzervik

But, what would he have for dinner, and, would he have beer? These questions should be posed to all candidates.

And this is coming from the land of FOX News :))

Thanks for a good laugh.

Why do you think Carlsen won't be given beef here? Beef is not illegal in India.

it would be nice if the organizer give beef to Carlsen. he wont need to carry them from Norway! it would be very friendly!!

TheOldReb

The food slant is interesting . Is beef eaten a lot in Norway ?  Is Carlsen a really big beef eater ?  I wonder if you can get pork in Israel ?  When I lived in Portugal it bothered me that I couldnt get grits anywhere but even many US states don't seem to have grits .
