The second part of the previous comment (for app users):
down one pawn. If it’s a draw or black wins, black wins the set. If white wins, white wins the set. The same rules apply to the semifinals and the finals. The two players who lose the semifinals will play a 3rd place match with the same rules.
6. Tiebreaks. In the round robin section, if two or more players finish at the same score, there will be 3 tiebreaks:
1. Direct result: the result of the set they played. If the set was won by one of the players, he will be ahead.
2. Sonneborn-Berger score. If the result is still tied after the first tiebreak, this is going to be used (by set results, not by game results). It would be too long to explain here so here’s a link to the Wikipedia article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sonneborn%E2%80%93Berger_score
3. Number of wins. If the result is still tied after the second tiebreak, this is going to be used. The number of games you won (not sets!) will be the tiebreaker.
After seeing CBB’s OTB Tourney, this idea popped in my mind. A lot of people (including me) don’t have time for such long time controls, so I’ve decided to create this (unrated!) 3|0 tournament. I’ll tell you how it works:
1. This is a round robin tournament, which means that everyone will play with everyone once.
2. When you play someone, you have to play a set of 6 games. The overall result will affect your points in the tournament. If you win the set, you get 1 point. If you draw the set, you get 0,5 point. If you lose the set, you get 0 point.
3. At the end of the round robin tournament section, the top 8 will advance to the next section: the quarterfinals.
4. This is going to be the arrangement of the quarterfinals, semifinals and finals:
A quarterfinal: First vs. Eigth
B quarterfinal: Second vs. Seventh
C quarterfinal: Third vs. Sixth
D quarterfinal: Fourth vs. Fifth
Then semifinals:
A semifinal: A quarterfinal winner vs. D quarterfinal winner
B semifinal: B quarterfinal winner vs. C quarterfinal winner
Then the final:
A semifinal winner vs. B semifinal winner
Then the 3rd place match:
A semifinal loser vs. B semifinal loser
5. In the quarterfinals, a 6 game set will be played. If the result is tied at the end of the set, you have to play 1 tiebreaker game. If the result is still tied, you have to play 1 tiebreaker game. If the result is still tied, you have to play an Armageddon game where black plays down one pawn. If it’s a draw or black wins, black wins the set. If white wins, white wins the set. The same rules apply to the semifinals and the finals. The two players who lose the semifinals will play a 3rd place match with the same rules.
