3-Fold Repetition in Daily Chess

If you have the same position 3x in a row, why would this not automatically cause a draw?

MSC157

No, you have to claim it.

Chicken_Monster

How do you claim it?

MSC157

The bad thing about it is that in case opponent sets conditional moves, you can't claim it...

Oh, you know how to claim it? When it's the 3rd time repeated, you just click 'offer draw', and it's drawn (the end of the game).

Edit: Look at the bold text.

MSC157

I dont think you have any Daily games for now that are in the repetition.

Because the rules of chess say it has to be claimed. it is not automatic.

They are trying to imitate OTB where you would have to call an arbiter over to claim a draw for 3x reps.  99% sure though that at 5X, the program just awards a draw.  You could look it up in the Help articles section if it really matters to you...

I actually am not sure about the 5-one... I guess you can play until infinity.

Shoot...I can't find it anywhere.  Maybe I misread something somewhere; or maybe it's the voices in my head again...wink.png Anyway forget about the 5x auto draw; my bad.

MSC157

Haha, it's OTB rule I think tongue.png Like 75-move auto-draw rule tongue.png

Chicken_Monster

I have a 3-day game going now. We just had a position 3X. He offered me a draw and I was able to decline the draw.

Knew I read that somewhere and now staff confirms the 5x auto draw:

Either side may claim a draw after three repetitions.  However, if neither side claims the draw, it is not enforced until five repetitions.  This is the same rule as FIDE uses in OTB events.

The fifty-move rule is similar: either side may claim a draw after fifty moves with no progress, but if neither side claims the draw, it is not enforced until 75 moves with no progress.  Again, this is the same as the FIDE rule in OTB events.
