4-Player Bulldog Chess: Bad_Dobby_Fischer and josephyossi - unc07 and McGoohan

Sort:
Martin0

This is a 4-player bulldog with witch game. The teams are:

Team 1: @Bad_Dobby_Fischer (red) and @josephyossi (yellow)

Team 2: @unc07 (blue) and @McGoohan (purple)

Since this is a team game it will not count towards ratings.

null

Game Rules:

The order of moves is clockwise: red -> blue -> yellow -> purple.

Red and Yellow is a team against blue and purple.

You cannot capture your teammate's pieces.
There is no en passant.
Pawns promote on your 13th rank
Checkmate only happens when a player's turn is reached allowing a player's teammate to intervene.
The first team to checkmate an enemy player wins!

Time Control: 3 days/move and then a warning when the player has 24 hours to make a move. However, instead of loosing the game, a new player can take over, so the game can keep going.

Communication: During the game, no consultation except:

  1. Reminding a player to move during his turn
  2. Ask if you should resign
  3. Ask if you should offer draw/accept draw offer

Other things, such as move suggestions, telling your plan or warning partner of your opponents threats are not allowed. The players need think for themselves to figure out what their partner is intending to do when they see their partners move.

The pieces:
Guard (G) - Moves and captures like a king.

null

Witch (W) - The witch is transparent to friendly pieces, and she also makes all adjacent pieces (friend and foe) transparent to friendly pieces (but pieces are not transparent for the witch). The witch does not capture other pieces, but she can be captured. Although pieces are not transparent to the witch, she is very agile; she combines the movement of queen, knight, and can jump orthogonally and diagonally two squares. Transparency of a piece means that other pieces can move, attack, and capture right through the piece.

Clarification: Although two witches are on the same team, they only make pieces of their own color transparent. (so for example pieces made transparent by the yellow witch are not transparent to any other color).

null

Castling:
The rules of castling are similar as in classical chess, except the king travels three squares rather than two. The rook finishes adjacent to the king. All squares between the king and the involved rook must be unoccupied, with the exception of the witch and pieces made transparent by the witch.

Misc: Pawns can promote to queen, rook, bishop, knight in addition to guard and witch. Promotions are unlimited (not restricted to pieces that have been captured). Pawns can not capture en passant and pawns promote at the 13th rank.

Hmm, I'm not sure actually...

There is a chess variant which is played in teams of 2 where you and your partner will alternate between making moves (not sure what the chess variant is called, but in go it is called pair go).

The rules there when it comes to communications are:

During the game, no consultation except:

  1. Is it my turn?
  2. You played out of sequence.
  3. May I offer draw/accept draw/resign partner? (Yes, you may do that. / No, you may not.)

My intention with the no communication rule was something similar, but the way the rule is written now with allowing posts in this forum, but no PM's I am not sure what the rule is trying to accomplish. Your opponents hearing or not hearing the discussion was never part of the intentions of the rule. When telling your partner what to do during your partners move it does not really matter if your opponents hear it or not.

Not sure why the rule got limited to PM's  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I will definitely be watching this one.
McGoohan

I'm playing with the Witch for the first time. Is that correct, Rxi4+ would now be possible?

josephyossi

It is not your move. It is unc's move. it is clockwise.

Waredude
No. Your W is on the other side of the board.
