A fresh start in daily chess?

I have too many daily games to handle. and been timing out and blundering a lot of them...

My mistake is to have joined too many tournaments and club matches, there are a few tournaments I would like to make a good run in but it is just not possible...

What do you guys think?

ok sir

I think one can easily get hooked by this site. I suggest you to take a break, lace up your sneakers and go for a walk or run ( whichever you prefere ) in the nature. That will return you some peace of mind, you'll be able to think clearly and most of all, you will forget about chess for a while. happy.png

No lol I meant the daily time control of x days/move

AussieMatey

chamo, you're only playing 49 - some people are playing 8749.

I don't know how they do it but they probably don't do it tbf

Still that doesn't answer my question what should i do??

Yeah, it is best to play only a few games at the same time. My advice, don't set up any new games now, at least until you get to last 5-10 games. If you join a tournament where you have to play say 6 games at once, don't set up any new games at all.

Daily is tricky. You think that it doesn't require too much time, but the reality is that a single game takes a lot more time than a single long live game (if you think about the moves at all and use analysis board). So if you play many games at once, I can only imagine what kind of hell that is. I played 6 games at once not long ago (tournament games) and you constantly make moves. Of course it is just my experience as I am not disciplined enough to just log in once a day make one move per daily game and log out. If you are that disciplined, you could play more games than I suggested, but if not... it will be agonizing. grin.png

you probably need to stop Joining Many Tournament or set up a Time Schedule for Daily Chess, for examply whenever You get online on the start of the day, finish your daily games for the next 25-26 hours and then next day play your daily games at the same time. This avoids Timing out.

I was doing this but this way game won't end, I'll end up playing one move every 72 hours for games, which let's say games takr 50 moves that's 50x3 which is 150 days to finish a game!!

Well yeah thanks for advice, I won't join anymore club matches or tournaments and I will be focusing more on my play

After a while, it will get easier when you finish some of your games, but until then, it will be a pain. If my 6 games at once are any indication, I really don't know how would I manage 50 games at once. I would really have to play 1 or 2 moves a day and wait for some of my games to end. Even then, it would take a lot of time. happy.png

That is why I mainly play 1 or 2 at the most, and sometimes I don't play any daily games for a month or so.

It's easy to get carried away joining tournaments. Normally I would have around 100 games going which I find manageable. Then last March I had a couple of weeks off work and went a bit loopy joining many tournaments. At the peak last year I had about 350 games and even now 10 months after I signed up for them I'm still on 210ish. You could withdraw from the tournaments or resign games with under 4 moves played which won't affect your rating.

How do people get 100+ games going at a time?

I was under the impression that you can't start more games if it's currently your move in many of your current games.

And once you hit around 50 games, it would be very difficult to complete all of your moves before any of your opponents respond to your moves, right?

Yeah, pal, I cleared some of them rn but it's tough

I've never seen a limit on the number of tournaments you can join. Plus all it takes is to join 4 with groups of 12, both games played concurrently and that's 88 games right there. In all the time I've had so many games going I never got to a point where all my games were on the opponents move.

The word addiction comes to my mind. Janez60 commented about taking a break and you could not even consider it. Chess on a site like this can give you a buzz just like a gambling site. Here we are not throwing money away as well but the important thing is the time and the strain on the individual mentally.  If you can not even consider spending time away from games then please seriously consider what that says about your relationship with the site.

Addictions can be to shopping, video games, online chess, gambling, just depends on the circumstances. Always check if you can get yourself to pull back, is it easy to say no for a few days ( actually do it not just claim it) or do you find that you become fixated when away from the activity.

I am not blaming chess.com but all sites are set up to keep you linked in. If you have no daily games at the moment then the message says "why not start one". When is the message "why not take a break" ever shown?

The thing is Janez misunderstood the subject

+1 same so annoying sometimes, what I like to do if find what times they make thier moves and try to finish a game with one person quickly.

Did he? Am I?

You are looking for help to facilitate your problem with too many games. The simple answer is fewer games, give up on some,  Looking for ways to juggle these games and keep up the pressure on yourself rather than reducing the number greatly could mean that it is you that has misunderstood the subject.

This is a recreation, playing chess online is not your family or job, just a recreation. And if that recreation is causing you anxiety then that affects all your life.  Can you not walk away even for a short time?

chamo2074

Too many games of daily chess, he suggested taking a break from chess.com I bet he thought that I was having a problem playing chess on a daily basis, while I am talking about the "daily chess" mode on chess.com which is the equivalent of corresondence chess

castlesheppard

So? What has the speed of the game got to do with this? There is a buzz to playing these games or you would not be playing them. You have got yourself in a situation where you are feeling out of control of the number of games you are playing.  If it were not an issue then you would not be here talking about it.  While you are in the middle of an issue it is very hard to see the bigger picture.

Is spending time away from chess.com such a scary thought? You are fighting against any suggestion that you could simply not play for a few days to let your mind clear, I am simply asking you to think what that says about your relationship with this.
