What do you e4 players play against the Caro kann? I usually do this:

But I’m not sure if that’s what you’re supposed to do… I also used to play 2. Ke2 but I know that was definitely not the move.

After 1...c6 I would usually play KG or 2.Nf3. 2.Nc3 occasionally

If the game went 2.d4 d5 I think I would push e pawn.

Thanks but what do you mean by KG?

That’s what I thought but it wouldn’t make sense in the sentence

Avatar of Etymologist35

Wouldn't make sense as in it's a bad move? lol

Yes I meant play 2.f4 after 1...c6

Well just that that’s not the KG but I understand now.

Oh, it's not at all. Surely I knew that

I would like to discuss cheese. Lol But seriously, we should all endeavor to become cheese black belts. Cheese is similar to bacon, without all the cloven hoof implications, in that cheese makes everything better. So we should all know the difference in good cheese, great cheese, and life changing cheese. (Note: there is no bad cheese)

I hope Fras doesn't mind me doing this bit in the chess thread. ☺️

Here is an interesting question… will chess ever be solved?

Avatar of smiley_face10

yes but only in the far future. Besides humans will never be able to play like that anyway

I can’t say I agree. The number of possible positions is larger then atoms in the observable universe, and i think games can get very drawish, but just playing an offbeat opening could get the computer into a whole new calculation. Usually there is ~20 possible moves in a position, so if you know math you know that gets really darn big

Yeah it really is that big but if you think about it, the game is already partially solved. If you put max depth stockfish against itself it will always end in a draw...

Avatar of chesssblackbelt

this was a pretty tactic. white to play and win

Qc8+ Rxc8 Rxc8+ Ne8 Bg6 and ggs?

Avatar of chesssblackbelt

gotta start with Bg6 otherwise there’s qe8

Avatar of cheeseblackbelt

Qe8 Qxa8 Qxa8 Rc8+ Qxc8 Bxc8 and I think white is still winning but I get the point

Yeah but trading queens while up a piece is not bad either, but yeah I need to play Bg6 FIRST, then Qc8+. My idea is still winning I think tho

Lmao. I don't know if you're serious but some time ago I created a thread arguing that it has been already.
