During a blitz game, GM Magnus Carlsen was playing, and his opponent accidentally did a “pawn fork on himself”. Yep, he moved a pawn that immediately allowed Magnus to capture three of his pieces in one move. The opponent just stared at the board, completely frozen, while Magnus casually slid his pieces and then shook his head laughing. The chat (this was online) erupted in nonstop laughing emojis.
The absolute kicker? The opponent resigned two moves later, saying in the chat: “I think I just invented a new way to lose instantly.”
It’s one of those moments that’s simultaneously tragic and hilarious—you almost feel bad, but you can’t stop laughing.
