Deal with the actual subjects that are stressing you. By the way, find Josh Waitzkin videos on YouTube (for example Push and Pull)
Instead of quitting chess, why not use it less often to keep your mind sharp and to try to develop other interests.
Try being "The Ideal Renaissance Man." The world is full of lots of interesting things, many of which cost little, especially with online help so often being free. Creative writing, playing guitar, bicycling, running, basketball, etc. etc.
Can anybody tell me why I'm addicted to this game? I know the answer but it is too unpleasant. My life is totally uninteresting and I subconsciously try to find any ways to fill this dreadful void. I spent hours studying books, solving puzzles etc. and my ELO is around 1400. That's ridiculous, of course. I know perfectly well I have no chances to improve. Does anybody know how to quit? Forever.
