"Add 15 seconds".........

I could have sworn I saw an "add 15 seconds to your opponent's time" line in the chat box the other day.  I have been looking but haven't seen it since.  Was I hallucinating or has anyone else come across it.  I thought it was a much needed addition to the tools we have playing on this site.

You are not hallucinating; this feature only exists in unrated live games though. I've gifted my opponent some extra time before if we both waste some time chatting, or reach an interesting endgame we both want to play out when they have low time. I guess that with some coordination on their end, you could also probably play unrated games with time odds, but I've never used it for that.

Hey KeSetoKaiba!  Thanks for the information!  Makes sense now!

HOW do you gift more time to an opponent during an un-ranked game?

I could be wrong but I think that setting is only available if you are friends with the member. I know it shows up in the chat window as a link, so you can check there.

+1 I've played many chess games (rated and unrated) and the game has to be unrated among friends for the "Add Time" option. Similarly, chess.com did a good job on the new Live Chess format for "Add Time" because the button is easier to add time faster as well as not needing a confirmation to add time.

I'm playing a friend in an unrated game and wanted to give them a time advantage, but there's no add time option, are there any other requirements?

I've only done it a few time, so don't know if you can increase it past the starting time. My guess is you can't, but would have to test.

Not only in unrated, I remember seeing that in some of my rated games too.

Adding time is ONLY in unrated games; if rated, then you must have been hallucinating, or playing increment without realizing it wink.png

This is why the other service I used since the early aughts is superior. It's a shame their pricing is not competitive so no one plays there anymore. It's nice to have the option in ALL games to add time, not auto-flag, and grant takebacks for obvious mouse slips (like dropping the piece one square before recapture).
