I don't think aliens exist. But if they did they'd invent a more perfect game which wouldn't have gone through changes over centuries.
Is it possible that extraterrestrials introduced the game of chess to humanity as a method of controlling their evolution? Ancient astronaut theorists say "Yes.".
Change it to anything, flowers, animals, stamp, whatever floats your boat. A musician, a dead guy, a dead musician ??
