Allow us to check profiles before the match begins

I applaud chess.com for taking cheating so seriously but as any player knows, it’s a tough  battle. One thing that helps is looking at your opponents profile. Let us check before a match. When I check and see a sane 50 / 50 breakdown it is such a relief but more and more I’m being forced to play obvious cheaters.

As long as you aren’t the one throwing challenges into the void in search of opponents you actually can look at any potential opponents profile before a game.

How can you tell if someone is a cheater by looking at their profile?

Bad idea. Very bad idea. First you cannot actually determine who is a cheater by looking at their profile. Even if you think they are, unless you can prove they cheat, you have no right to accuse them.

Another reason why it’s a bad idea is because players will start looking and accepting or rejecting games based absolutely any stupid criteria such as what country the play is from, what their clubs are, how many games they played.

In the real life, whether during a tournament or casual play you don’t get to interview and check your opponents before you agree to play.

Additionally, you have an option to look at people’s profiles and then send them a challenge. If they don’t want to they don’t have to accept, but they could accept.

The cheating is a real problem and sometimes less than perfect solutions are required. Personally, I dont want to play someone who has a 70%+ win percentage. At the level I am at, that is very unlikely to be legit. Could I be wrong, sure. But I would like to make that decision myself not to play games where the opponent has no errors and 99% accuracy, or plays one legit game and then follows it up with an impossible improvement.

The worst thing about these cheaters is they make you paranoid and start blaming legit losses on cheating. Basically ruining online chess, I think all options should be on the table. I would also like to only play against other paying members, not because it is a perfect solution but because it might reduce my exposure.
