I'm Going to Farm Sweden for an CM Title but Need Help

I made the below thread trying to identify what the easiest country to achieve NM is and it seems to be the USA

https://www.chess.com/forum/view/general/whats-the-easiest-country-to-achieve-nm-in

I'm now interested in going over there to farm them for an NM title but I wanted some more information first:

  1. Can I still get an American NM title if my federation is England? Or would I need to switch?
  2. If I do need to switch federations, then can I wait until I've already qualified for the NM title before switching?
  3. How many games/tournaments minimum do I need before being able to qualify for NM? Is it possible to get it done in 1 trip?
  4. What's the easiest American state to gain rating in?
  5. What's the easiest American tournament to get a 2200 performance in?
  6. My dad never tips, like no exceptions ever. I know America has a big tipping culture, so will my dad be confronted if we don't tip? I'm not trying to get shot by a waiter
  7. Will we be ok if we declare at customs that we have no social media? I've posted way too much anti Trump stuff to be allowed into the country if they saw my social media

If I can think of anymore questions I'll put them in the thread but those are the 7 main questions that's coming to mind. I would need to get my dad to agree but if he knew I'd get NM then surely he'd allow it

Since you seem pretty ambitious anyways, wouldn’t it just be simpler to spent extra time becoming a fide cm or uk nm? Like what if you get to 2199 uscf and then have to go home

I'm not good enough for a title here yet. It's gonna take a couple years minimum

But I don't have a USCF rating so if I just overperform in America I could get NM straight away

It's not a guarantee I get it but it's a decent chance

How many games/tournaments minimum do I need before being able to qualify for NM? Is it possible to get it done in 1 trip?// if 2200 uscf is done then ig it should be done in just one trip

u hve to perform with a rating of 2300+ in 3 games of a single tourna

bruh its not requirement like when we review any games on cc in the review box engine gives us a rating based on our opening middle end game like tht so they need ur performance of 2300 or above 2300 in 3 games of 1 single tourna u get it now?

You know what bro, come to Sweden and play against middle aged men
at 2500 blitz you’d probably mop the floor with most of them, even the ones with a similar otb rating to yours

1. Lowkey no clue. All nm titles are the same I think. 2. U probably don't have to. 3. 25 games minimum. Uscf gonna slime you out tho if you come in unrated and you don't leak ur ecf England rating or wtvr bc it's unfair. So talk with an American accent. 4. Depends how long the trip is. 5. Theres a couple of places that I call 'farmer tournaments' where they are just in some rural town with the same ppl floored at like 1900 and stuff. Do not go to new York though! Great chess community but deflated uscf there. 6. just say oh I didn't know we were supposed to tip or smth. Then say you don't have any extra money. 7.I guess bro 😭

Avatar of TheFloridianSpeedster

3 theyll be hella suspicious too lol. Play under an alias or smth

5 ts not true lmao

Maybe easier to try to reach 2200 FIDE and get the CM title?

LMAO didn’t know u know politics cbb. I don’t know if your political views will disallow u from entering the country but if they do then…… “the land of the free” kinda ironic

You have to get a rating of 2200 uscf before you get NM and you have to have played 26 games at least. These are the only requirements, so it might take multiple trips.

I used to have an NM coach, and I'm going off memory here from what I remember him describing, so forgive me if some of my facts are inaccurate. But from what I recall:

First 25 USCF games are provisional.

First handful of games are wild rating changes (up to 400 points higher than your opponent for wins).

After those first few games, the rating changes drop to around 30 or so points max per win.

...

So you need to bank wins against 1800+ players in the first few games to shoot up to 2200+ provisional.

Once those first few games are gone, the rating changes drop off significantly, and you're looking at a much slower climb from there on out.

So your quickest path is to play against 1800+ players and grab wins early on. Lower opponents = lower gains.

Which means that even if you completely dominate a field of 1600s, like Morphy on a killing spreed, your rating will top out at around 2000 ...

People in the US are actually good, it is NOT the easiest to get a title in.

Go look for some European or Asian country, it should be MUCH easier.

I believe he means "easiest" in terms of federation requirements.

In Canada's CFC, for example, you need norms to reach NM (three separate tournament performances of over 2300), in addition to a minimum established 2200 rating.

In USCF, you just need a 2200 established rating.
