tygxc,

an engine is like a 3000 GM available 24/7 for free but it is most certainly not a coach. a computer can only give an answer to a given position much like a calculator can give you a number answer to a math problem. it will not teach you the quadratic formula.

example: a engine may tell you that Be7 is the correct move but it will not discuss with you the concept of bishop retreats or the controlling of long and short diagonals. or how the retreat square you choose will effect your bishops influence on the position potentially for the rest of the game. that you learn from practice and the study of books written by humans.

Even the practical value that one would receive from engine analysis is relative to the skills of the player interpreting the data.

and on a side note, I posed a question about how Bottvinik learned every line of the semi slav and you provided me with three games from Fischer. that's like trying to explain the attacking style of Kasparov by showing games of Petrosian.

analysis of ones games is an important practice skill but it is not the sole means to chess improvement.
