also, I feel as though the endgame is my worst area. any suggestions on how to train for this or any advice? I just make stupid mistakes in endgame all the time. Thanks!

The best endgame book to learn all the basics, including advanced concepts is 100 Endgames You Must Know, by Jesus de la Villa. Get this book, you won't be disappointed.
In the meantime, I'll give you a practical endgame tip. Don't think that extra material is a cake walk. You need to be extra careful in this phase to hang on to what you've got. You can't just blindly exchange pieces. You definitely don't want to give up an open file, so don't just blindly exchange rooks. Also, make sure your pawns are safe and covered, it's suprising how fast you can drop a couple pawns if your not careful.
thanks so much for the advice I appreciate it. yes I especially agree about pawns I lose them a lot and never can come back. I'll check that book out as well. thanks again
Oh and there might be one or two Chess Mentor courses that could help: (OK there might actually be 13)

Hi, I'm wondering if anyone has any kind of checklist they go through before making a move, such as "what are my threats? ", "where can I move to get an advantage for this piece?", etc. in other words how does one process an think critically whether he should make a defensive move vs offensive, etc.
