I don't know why people are having this persective like anand have no chance against carlsen.

Look at their last match (Anand won zero games, even from good positions).

What's even more dangerous is Anand didn't push to win from good positions, and played scared.

Also look at their ratings, numbers of tournaments won, and how the players are trending the last 5 years.  Anand is getting older and Carlsen is getting better.

Of course anything could happen, no one knows the future.  But from what we do know, logically it would be foolish to think the match will be close.  Carlsen is the big favorite.

Yes, Carlsen has 5-0 in wins in classical chess the last three years, 20-1 in top tournament wins after Linares 2008, and +92 points in rating. Difficult to argue anything else than that it would be the maybe biggest sensation in World Championship history if Anand won, the only competition would be Euwe in 1935 and Kramnik in 2000.

Irontiger, it would never have thought that chess was going to be contamined by the football-type fans and ""philosophy"... it's incredible, how did it happen? Internet strikes (badly) again...too many people can talk about too many things... ahhh it's a lost war anyway...

You seem to be under the impression that internet created trolls (because of anonymity or whatever). I can assure you that they were among us all along - it's just that when you talked with ten persons a day by meeting them in person, you could easily filter out the obnoxious ones and stop interacting with them, whereas the point of the internet is precisely to not filter out the millions of people that could have something interesting to say.

Chess is, arguably, demanding more intellectual effort than soccer from the players, but the patzers in both are essentially the same, and the whole thing of "supporting one's team" comes from the dawn of time, when siding with your monkey tribe for the control of the waterpoint was an evolutionary advantage.

DAILYWATERSITTING

Yes but internet makes chess tournaments, chess history etc available for everybody - so how can the beautiful world of chess filter out the idiots? It can't, so that's a forced mate.

After the WC, Anand gave an interview. Anand expressed that he didn't know how to play against Carlsen. So unless this changes he won't win.

I hope that Anand finds a way to beat Carlsen. I'm not a fan of Anand or Carlsen but I think it would be the most interesting if Anand found a way to beat Carlsen.

I think we need a new Tal.

If we need a new Tal, I doubt that either Anand or Carlsen would fit the profile... Tongue Out

Carlsen is really good but it goes without saying I will support Anand even at this age he shows a temperment one among one crore people. may the birth land of chess will win. This is just my wish .

The most surprising thing to see,in all matches carlsen wins by waiting for opponent play and find their blunders and attacking.if he attacks first he will lose I think.so he s playing ilogical non theory moves.u can c all his game he is nt playin attacking chess.BT it doesn't favours this time.anand said "this year game will be dfifferent."

I mean, Anand plays well (nothing spectacular by the way, just solid chess) after years of dry games and dull draws (and a lot of losses) and people go like "Now he's back he'll win against Carlsen"... while Carlsen's worst results in the last years are 2nd place in tournament play a couple of times - plus Anand has not beaten Carlsen in classical in the last years... but ok! I said, it's stupid to even argue.

Lol Carlsens the master of boring chess games.

Well, to be entirely fair, Anand has played more than a few "boring" games in the last few years. I think every Top player has.

yeh but Carlsen only plays boring games because he's boring

Carlsen does not always play boring games, unless every game that doesn't end in a queen sacrifice is boring. Carlsen has played some very rich and subtle tactical games even against top players. His games against Nakamura are examples.

We will see the results and by the way I don't remember an american champ other than Robert Fischer (you might say the same about anand , but did you have the 2nd youngest GM like Negi?)

To be honest everyone is jealous and crippled by India's intellectual Superiority in  anything and stay tuned because there's more to come.

How many of these threads are there? Can't there be just 1 Carlsen VS Anand 2014 thread?

Carlsen will remain the World Champion afer all is said and done. He will be the new face of chess for years to come.

Until challenged by Caruana for the title in 2 years, that is Tongue Out

Superqueen500

Looks like Grischuk is closing in on Caruana in terms of rating. He's at 2810 now. But the winner of candidates tournies isnt always the highest rated player. For all we know Topalov or Aronian or Mamedyarov could be facing Carlsen.

Ben-Lui

Whoever it'll be, the competition for Magnus for the title will definitely be stronger in 2 years than it is this time.

Anand goes down in Game 2. Sadly for chess fans around the World. This match doesnt even seem to be like a fight between the equals (Kasparov vs Karpov  for instance). It seems lop sided reminiscent of may be Kasparov vs Nigel Short.
