I'm for Topalov. Ziryab, how is Topa a poor role model? I'm not doubting you, I'm just not up on my knowledge of the players like I should be.

There's a dozen other threads on the topic. Google toiletgate.

Hello everyone, this is my first post. I can honestly say I don't have a favorite. Not being too familiar with these players, I started out the match rooting for Anand and then gradually switched to Topolov when I saw that his play was more aggressive. I think that kind of speculative play makes for more exciting games.

Now I'm back to being even in my preference. However, for this fun excercise I will chose Topolov because of my tendency to root for the underdog.

Topolov IS the underdog, isn't he?

I agree, Ziryab!

Lol. Topalov's win over Anand in Sofia in 2005 is one of my favorite games, but I want Anand to triumph, and I trust that he will.

Anand because Topalov needs an attitude adjustment.

Topalov is an exciting player, but a poor role model.

Any guess who he supports?Wink

SInce when are chess players supposed to be good role models? If Topalov would only turn it up a notch he might get in the tabloids and draw in new fans.

Yup! If I needed a role model I would pick Mother Teresa, not a player of game in which you have to crush your opponent.

game 9 move 53, topalov looks under a bit of pressure a queen for two rooks, king in the open, anand has less time though, anyone predict the result, at first glance I favour the rooks

I thought Topa looked slightly better before the Q/R's trade now it looks like Anand is on top. (to my green eye)

Looking at the game after move 67.Kf2 b1=Q they are moving fast now, it looks like it will just be a draw.

Avatar of Ziryab

Looks drawns to me. Great game!

Avatar of orangehonda

I thought Topa had a perpetual but Anand somehow won the pawn!! ... is this a theoretical win or draw?  2R+bisohp's pawn vs Q ... I know this is bad place to do live commentary Tongue out but is exciting because I want Anand to pull out the win Smile

edit... oh I missed how easy the perpetual was heh.

Like Zyrab said -- great game, even if it was a draw they play some exciting chess.

Yes. Looking forward to Topalov's efforts tomorrow. Of course, Anand will defend better than game eight. Then, as we saw today, Anand will create an imbalance in game eleven that gives him a chance to end this thing. Sunday is the big day!!

I wonder how Anand will take the result of this game psychologically.

Whoever is the better player.

Wow, it may all come down to the last game!  What pressure for the players!

I thought Anand defended perfectly fine in game 8... he just broke down at the end and Topalov jumped at the chance.  Game 8 was probably a tougher psychological blow to Anand than 9 -- in fact in my opinion he did really well to play so energetically after such a tough loss.
