I am running Scid versus PC on linux. I was wondering are there any free large databases that I can download and import into Scid versus PC as an alternative to Chessbase? Thanks in advance.

You should check out this thread, and yes I have downloaded it and it works. Laughing I'm back to using HIARCS though. Smile

I don't want to download a file from someone's blog.

It's not from someone's blog, it's a website that hosts useful chess files with a blog on the front page.  It's my site and the file is fine.  As you can see in the other thread, people are using it and it is completely fine.  I just updated the file with the last 4 TWIC files and did some cleanup of bad games today.  Obviously, it's your choice, but the site is legit and not just a blog, and the database is pretty much exactly what you are asking for.

I wasn't insulting you, and yes, that's the original post.  He mentions he wants to import it into Scid vs. PC (can't be done with the chessbase mega base), and wants an alternative to chessbase because he's in linux.

Well THIS was his thread yesterday;            I installed adblocker plus on my galaxy tablet. I configured it to run. But, ads are still showing up on the chess.com app. Last thing I want to do is root my device.             Databases?  Scid vs PC on Linux?  Root kits?   and the all-inclusive word--"FREE".  He hasnt played any chess here, has no friends in 6 months, creates a lot of nonsense threads. Me thinks there's something more here than meets the eye. You want this thread in off-topic also? Computer tech issues don't belong in Genaral Chess Discussion.    Baddogno told him its fine, but he has another excuseCry  He doesn't want to download from a blog. I'm pretty sure he'll never take anybody's advice on anything. The chess.com tech dept should keep an eye on this kid. There's just something fishy about someone who talks about root kits but doesn't want to play chessUndecided

I have to check it out. Looked like a blog to me.

Not sure what you are king about. The other threads got nothing to do with this. I am a linux user and interested in open source databases for scid
