Ok thank you so this is a book.
Hi I'm Alex and just begun learning this game when I was in Spain last week (hence the profile photo ha) and now back to the UK weather I want to carry on learning.
Is there any tips you can give me please to help me start. I am not rated yet I need to play a few more games but I am sure my rating will be bad! Thanks.
If you don't like books like tygxc suggested, then there's loads of good YouTube channels to help you. Daniel naroditsky being the most educational one, but John Bartholomew and st Louis chess channel do some good videos for beginners.
But just play loads of long games and analyse them after. Post your games here and I can take a look at them if you want
Hi thank you very very much for this! I will play lots for sure just need to get good and practice is the best way right!
Yeah exactly. Everyone is bad when they first start out so dw about losing.
There should be some beginner lessons on this site somewhere. I know lichess has loads of them as well (lichess lessons are free).
Ok great beginner lessons is what I need what is lichess?

dont worry too much about your rating when you start, just play chess and have fun. I can confirm that Daniel Naroditsky is a great teacher. His videos have helped me improve a lot. Personally I have never even opened a chess book lol even though I know it would probaly help me a lot but I just dont like reading a bunch of variations. It just makes my brain hurt. I think as a beginner you should look into opening principles and avoid one move blunders such as leaving your pieces undefended.

Thank you Mr Buffman I was told when I was on holiday in Spain last week that I need to learn openings first so this is good you say this as well!

You're all giving advice to a bot.
Lol I'm not a bot!!!!
Ah-HA! Exactly what a bot would say...

You're all giving advice to a bot.
No, just another troll who made an account pretending to be a woman and sandbagging to look like a beginner. Very common now.
Why assume this? I'm confused.
The pfp is the kind a catfish would put.
You all shouldn't be accusing unless you have some solid evidence.

There are tutorials there's also a learn feature on chess.com I think but I think it is reserved for gold, platinum or diamond (not sure which one ) which could be increadably helpful just focus on not
