Anybody remember the Kasparov vs. the World forums? Not the game itself, but the forums? They get a mention in the following wikipedia article near the bottom of the section on moves 1-10:

The above states: "The World Team was not coordinating well on the bulletin board. Typical posts were brash, emotionally heated, and confrontational; profanity flowed freely. Much more energy was being spent on flame wars than on analysis". It's those flame wars I remember.
In particular somebody who was getting flamed had the handle "EnglishSheepdog", so my comment was: "Flaming English Sheepdog - another example of awful British cuisine". I was pretty proud of that but somebody completely topped me by responding, "Yes, but it goes so nicely with a fine Welsh claret"
