Are computers good for chess? Is chess960 the future of the game?

Hello everyone

I was watching one of the last interviews Bobby Fischer gave and he seemed to be very critical of the computer revolution in chess and the ever increasing chess theory.

Do you think engines are good for chess as a game?

I've seem some players saying that chess960 will be the future of the game. What are your thoughts on that?

Have a good one happy.png

960 is 25 years old.  If it hasn't surpassed regular chess by now, chances aren't great that it is the future of chess.

Are computers good for chess?  Well, we're still learning new strategies and techniques from computer self-play, so I'd argue computers are good for chess.

When human players use engines to guide their strategy, we are dehumanizing the game of chess. Luckily the creativity aspect of the game can keep it refreshing. But at high levels this is getting a rarer sight as time goes by.

Chess960 is a fun variant but at the same time it's just a variant. Easy no.

Great points.

The idea of chess960 is awesome but I can't see it becoming greater than the standard game.
