yes i know you may think this is funny but do you think that they are? I mean are they improving your chess skills or are they just a time sucker. your thoughts forum monster?

Both. You can always learn something new from them, but sometimes it just sucks (in term of learning) - but nice time spender. :)

Most of the forum stuff won't help your chess much, is it a waste of time if you're having fun though?

There are quite a lot of useful threads imo, game analysis, openings, endgames, puzzles.

There's some correlation between winning and hanging out here.

I learned a lot about chess from reading the forums. Plus I learn some about the people in the Chess.com community. Good and bad:)

So you're assuming that the purpose of reading and posting on the forums is to improve your chess skills? You will be able to think about the question you posed in a more thorough and comprehensive way if you cast aside that presumption.

Forums are probably where I first came into contact with the love of my life, trysts.

Yes, forums are a waste of time. But, the real problem is that CHESS is a waste of time.

See? Scottrf knows that the benefits of the forums go beyond improving your chess skills.

True, the more time you spend on forums the more chess games you lose.

Good for feedback for beginners in my opinion.

I don´t know how the trolls can help me to become a better player.

But some of them are funny.

You actually hit the nail on the head there. If you don't think chess is a waste of time, then for you it's not a waste of time. And that applies to pretty much anything else, including the forums.

I think its good to connect with people who have love for the game like you but nope doesnt improve your game at all unless your looking for something specific or asking everyone for some advice in your (OP) thread.

Forums are efficient tools for those with time to waste.
