Are most members on this site sandbagging?

Serious question. It's rather funny how I haven't lost an over the board game in months to people my rating or slightly higher, yet I get beaten easily by people lower rated than myself on this site on a regular basis.

Odd that. I wonder why?

No wonder why this site isn't taken seriously.

Could be your OTB opponents who are sandbagging.

I doubt it - I play for a well respected club that takes chess very seriously.

If you haven't lost in months OTB to the ratings you suggest then you are underated (assuming they weren't mostly draws).

Here, the ratings can fluctuate and as redtrucker mentioned, time controls can play a factor. You are facing players that are better than you in those time controls, at least in those particlar games/positions.

Also, familiarity plays a part. If you play the same people a lot, you can play better against them but when you play people with a different style and/or repertoire you can be less successful.

Wherever you play, if you play often enough then your rating will be accurate.

It sounds like neither your OTB or online ratings are accurate if you're both losing and winning all the time against people your rating.

Or more likely you're exaggerating.

Its online chess, take it for what it is.  Its an online rating that means NOTHING.  The only online ratings i give any credence to are titled players.

Nope, not exaggerating. So I don't know why my rating is so innaccurate.

And what does showing my last few threads prove exactly Robert? One of your recent threads shows you admitting that you are a troll - https://www.chess.com/forum/view/off-topic/i-am-sorry

Lol! Can't take you seriously.

I'm actually serious about chess, so I want an accurate rating and to play against honest people. Not much to ask. I'm not complaining, just pointing out facts.

You played one game here four years ago. You have barely started up again and haven't really played many games. It is no wonder that your rating hasn't settled.

Yes...4 out of 5 dentists/chess players agree...

A similar question... is everyone crazy, or just me? In such cases it's unlikely everyone in the world fundamentally misunderstands reality while you alone see clearly.

Anyway, think of it this way, it's not possible for everyone to sandbag because ratings are relative. Similarly it's extremely difficult for most members to be sandbagging.
