Everything is possible
Are my opponents in live chess always real?

There are no bots masquerading as human.
I'm surprised at how often this sort of theory pops up. It would be an interesting topic for a psychology study.
As for names you don't understand... not everyone is a native English speaker. People also choose fictional characters, song titles, etc that they like. People will put their initials and year of birth. JDsmith78 for John Davis Smith born in 1978.
Most people don't post... there are easily fewer than 1000 active contributors on the forums, vs millions of active players. Literally 1% of 1% of people write messages.
+1

Unless ur versing the computers, yes its always a human being on their phone or laptop at the other end of the board facing you.
Not sure what else it would be.
They put random names for fun, and if you want them to answer something they’re prob in focus mode so they can’t see ur messages, That’s all

Holy crap?! If a match up takes between 15 and 25 seconds you or others are most likely to leave the site? I am not saying this to be rude but wow that level of impatience is going to cause some serious problems in life. Anyone who can't wait 15 seconds for the game to start has issues that need worked on.

Unfortunately I think people are indeed increasingly impatient. Have you never gone on to a web page and found that it takes 5-10 seconds to load or you get 1-2 pop-ups and you just think 'sod this' and quit out of the page due to frustration and simply move on to one of a million other pages you'd like to read?

Wouldn't be surprised if the accounts (CONSISTENTLY) discrediting this theory are fake too, like staff members covering up the truth to sustain vs a free rival site

Why would a chess site, that has the domain name and currently the most success, risk throwing it all away by adding bots to live chess? If any site out there has no reason to have bots it's this one.
This isn't a game where you need 10-20 players to start, you need only 2. Match making is much easier than other games because of that.

I love chess.com. I'm a big fan and former Diamond member for 2-3 years. But something is bothering me lately.
I seem to get matched up in "live chess" against players who generally have a few letters at the start of their name that do not "mean" anything followed by 2-3 numbers. For example (and this is a made-up version) "Feghjos76".
They don't have a profile picture and have often played a LOT of games. Also, they never chat even when you ask a simple question and invite them to say 'something'.
Now, I wonder if these accounts are real players or perhaps fake?
If I was in chess.com's shoes, for example, few things would concern me more than the idea of having members who clicked "play" but had to wait 15, 20, 25 seconds for a match-up and grew impatient and then went off to play on a rival site where the match-ups were quicker.

When I look at my profile now, I am wondering if I'm real or not.
Chat is turned off, no profile picture (not a picture of myself at least), some letters that could be mistaken for a random string of letters... Perhaps I am a Matrix generated character with a sole purpose to play somewhat inferior chess.

the truth is much more difficult and hidden: chess.com took the hidden filmstudio where they faked the moon landing and made laboratory out of it (with the help of bill gates for shure). there they developed some human looking androids, gave them a laptop and so nobody can detect them. I tell you: the truth is out there!

I think they are just non English speakers. Many countries have their own writing system other than roman alphabet and their keyboard have more than two languages. When I was a kid I used to make random names by typing words on the English keyboard as if it was a Korean one. For example, if I type '음모론' on the English keyboard, I will get 'dmaahfhs', which only Korean users can recognise.

That is a fair point, Revollover2. I hadn't really thought of that.
I can't say from this site, but another popular chess site I frequent said that they don't bother allowing users to report cheating, because 95% of user reports were just sore losers, and the other 5% were people who got caught before a human could review the account.
