Hi,

Yes, people are definitely lazy, thank God!  Using hand axes and spears is much easier than relying upon our own teeth and claws to hunt and to kill animals that would otherwise prey on us and our loved ones. Fishing from boats with modern equipment certainly is easier than jumping into the water and catching fish by hand (having done both, I can verify that fact).  Flying @ 500 miles per hour is a much easier way to cross the North American Continent than walking it, no?  Perhaps this argument doesn't thrill you?

Effort (aka Gasp! WORK!!!) has it's well-documented uses but even God rested one day out of seven when doing his greatest opus. So "laziness" gets a bad rap when we're really talking about mere rest or very desirable "efficiency" or better yet "effectiveness."  The only laziness we should criticize is lax effort in the face of a desirable positive goal . . . and yes, there is far too much of that.

Some bad players are lazy. Some are not interested. Some are dumb. Some are discouraged by cheaters. Some are none of these.

Of course, and more reasons can be found for every single player.

Lazy? That's quite harsh. Maybe they just aren't so interested in chess to spend hours studying it.
