Are scandals like Niemann V Carlsen good for chess?

theyre good for the short term, and not good for the long term.

A good example is Nicole Arbour. She made a famous video called "Dear Fat People" which was intentionally offensive to get some attention, which worked. people were angry, making videos, talking about her. after about a month or two the controversy subsided and she fell into the abyss of irrelevancy.

this will be the same with chess.

Oof, to only last a few months, I guess she had a small amount of integrity.

There are plenty of people whose fame lasts for years purely due to their shamelessness.

Of course sometimes it backfires and you end up like Alex Jones, but a person can certainly have a better run than a few months even if they have nothing worthwhile to say.

It depends on the situation. usually your run in the spotlight won't last long.

in terms of chess, it had a spike because of covid, then it was starting to die down again until this Niemann drama. It will probably take by like febuarary next year and this will all be forgotten as well.
