I win against those guys too. My point was why it happens at all. Chess is let's face it a game most people regard as an old mans game. I was thinking all the trash talk is just an effort to kick against that by the young people who play it who feel they cant compete in any real sport.
Arrogance.
There has been a rise in uncouth behaviour in the past few years, maybe the chess streamers have had a bad influence.

That is a great point dfgh123. I think you may be right. I have been on a few of those streamer sites and they try to make Chess into a sort of cage fight drama to maybe to get away from its more genteel image. I guess they do it to get likes and subscribers. The young players maybe pick up on it.
I think what they do is okay.... just block the chat if u cannot take insults or cringe
Why insult at all though? Before you even type a comment Chess.com even instructs you to be kind. I was more interested why it happens at all though in a sort of psychological study. I was wondering if it was because chess is largely played by people who never seem to get involved in a physical sport and sort of try to make up for it in some way. A kind of kick the cat aggression because they feel less empowered in some way.
Mute chat if you cannot handle it.
LOL @ Cannot handle it. I was merely reflecting on why it happens. Chess players tend to not be the kind of people you "Cannot Handle".

Hi if you feel some players go to far you can report them also

In short, get a hold of yourself and stop whining over losing.

I cannot be bothered to comment on your topic because I’ve never in my entire life displayed arrogance. I will say this though, my threads are better, IMHO.

I guess the people doing this are quite young and maybe envy their friends who are good at the physical sports that they perhaps are not very good at and somehow try to make up for any shortcomings they may have.
There are probably as many reasons for doing this as there are people doing it. Underlying all of them are immaturity and poor social skills.
I notice when I engage with the chat during some of the games I play my opponents seem very arrogant and combative often LMAO at a move I make or baiting me on my mistakes. I wonder why that is?
